WEEK 2
Teamwork
During this week, our team did individual research on the company (JTI), which helped us get a better understanding of the company and what possible problems they may be encountering on a day-to-day or long term basis. As a team, we used the information we gathered to come up with a list of questions that we will be asking a member of the company (my dad). The questions we have come up with will ultimately provide us with all the information we need in order to properly assess the problems that this company faces, and will allow us to elaborate on possible recommendations that we have for the company to solve it's problems.
We have not allocated specific roles to each individual yet, as we would like to gather all the information we possibly can as a group before we distinguish predominant roles for each person. By doing this, we believe that it will optimize the amount of information we are able to collect, as well as filter out the less important information that we may not need. We will be allocating these roles in the upcoming weeks, once we have gathered all the information we need.
Reflection
In this week's lecture, we learned a lot about reflective writing and how important it is. Reflective writing basically involves actually thinking about, and properly analyzing, the work that you have done, and making the necessary additions or changes in order to better your work. it is very important to look back, analyse, and reflect on your writing, because there may be certain mistakes that you have made, or certain important points that you have missed out on without realizing that could make a very big difference in the final result. It is also very important to write about what you are thinking and feeling, and why you are thinking and feeling this way. When you are writing, you should remember to use more reflection than description, because when you do that, you are taking the information and making it your own rather than just making a statement about your findings. The videos that we were shown in the lecture also gave us a better understanding of reflective writing, and the thought process that we should have when writing reflectively. These videos were very interesting and provided a different, more colorful perspective on reflective writing.
In this week's seminar, we learned about the definition of a business case, the role of an analyst, and the steps involved in problem solving. We also learned how to use certain formulas in Excel, which is very useful to me because i have not had much past experience with Excel, and i know that it will be very beneficial to me throughout my course, as well as in the business world.
