WEEK 4

Teamwork

For the duration of the past week, my fellow team members and I looked at the questions and answers that we gathered and we have roughly begun planning what we will be saying in our presentation.
We have now also assigned official roles to each member. Jessica Oates has been assigned the role of the Manager, Lauren Wilkinson is the Consultant, Keelan McCrarren is the Researcher, and i am the Analyst. We strategically chose these roles to enhance each person's strengths, and allow for the best possible result for this presentation.
We have gathered a good amount of useful information on the company, and we feel as though we are on track with where we should be with this project at this point in time.
Going forward, we will be focusing a lot of our time and attention on finding possible IS solutions for the company, and filtering these suggestions on a trial and error basis, which will ultimately provide us with the most suitable solutions for the problems that we have found in the company.

Reflection

In this week's lecture, we looked at Business intelligence and how it can be enhanced with the use of Information Systems. We had an in-depth look at databases and how they operate in order to optimize the speed and the quality of information that is being distributed. Using the database approach has many benefits, as it improves the consistency and quality of the data that is being used, and it also makes the data more easily distributed and accessible. We also had a look at how business intelligence can prevent or reduce threats to the business, because knowledge is power, and having optimal knowledge about your business, as well as the other businesses in the field will always put you at an advantage as it makes the decision-making process a lot easier, amongst many other benefits. This lecture helped me in the sense that it put into perspective how Information Systems are actually used in businesses, and how important it is to always be knowledgeable when dealing with your own and/or other businesses.

In this week's seminar, we looked at a case study and analyzed the risks and rewards associated with using YouTube as a platform for advertising a business. This would appeal to many businesses as YouTube has a very large reach and therefore would put the brand on a larger scale if it reaches the right people. It is, however, also very risky using such a big platform as it is very easy for your brand to be copied or get lost in this platform. This case study interested me because i am always on social media, and i have never really looked at it from a business's perspective, so that was new and it will probably enable me to think of the business side of things more often while I'm browsing.
