WEEK 5
Teamwork
This week, our team has come up with some more detailed questions which we believe will help us to get the results and information we require. We have also been focusing our attention on using the problems we have already listed and going more in depth with them in order to further explain why they are so problematic for the business. This will assist us when we are coming up with the solutions. Taking the extra time to sort out which questions would give us the answers we desire was a very good move for the team, as we feel a lot more prepared going into the interview with better questions. We are now halfway through the duration of this course, and i am really interested in the information that i have obtained so far. I also think that my team and i work very well together and we are all happy with the way that the task is going at the moment.
Reflection
In this week's lecture, we looked at crimes that are committed in information systems, and what security and controls are put in place to deal with these crimes. We also learned that there are many computer crimes which could potentially threaten the business, some examples of which would be the possibility of information getting into the wrong hands and being modified, as well as the threat of hackers accessing the business's information and distributing it to the business's competitors, or using it to their own advantage. There are also many cyber-threats, which any business dealing with the internet may come across fairly frequently. Learning about this really caught my attention because majority of the businesses that exist today are somewhat reliant on the internet, and if the information the business puts online is not protected in the correct way, it could cause the downfall of the business very quickly. There are certain measures put in place to prevent these things from happening in order to safeguard the business's information. Most internet-based businesses will use firewalls and encryption which prevents intrusion and secures their information. Other businesses may rely on the laws put in place to prevent computer crimes, which stands to be effective, but not as immediate as the former measures i mentioned would be.
In this week's seminar we looked at the 'IF' function in Excel, which has to do with the chances of the outcome of various possible situations proving to be true or false. This is proven with three different arguments: the logical argument (the main question), the 'value if true' argument and the 'value if false' argument. This is useful to know how to do because making calculated predictions on scenarios could potentially save you a lot of time and money.
