WEEK 6
Teamwork
This week, my team and i went to the JTI offices in Weybridge to interview my dad again, this time with more targeted questions which helped us a lot as we have now obtained all the information we need from the company in order to formulate our IS solutions. We also had a meeting on Monday after our classes to get an overall view on where we are with this task, as well as to incorporate the new information with the old. Overall, we had a very good, detailed discussion about this task and we are very confident that it is heading in the direction we want it to. We also decided that we are going to meet again next week Thursday to discuss which 4 problems we can create the best solutions for for this company.
Reflection
This week's lecture was about Cloud Computing, explaining what it is and how it works. Cloud Computing basically allows you to access all your data on any related device without having it saved on that device, in order to aid virtualization. This is a relatively new concept, so a lot of people may not understand how it works and would be reluctant to trust it with all of their valuable data. I had very little, basic knowledge on this topic before this lesson, which i believe is better because i did not have any preconceived misconceptions regarding this topic, and i could therefore learn about it anew for the first time. While i was growing up, all computers had a hard drive which stored it's information, so this concept was very strange for me at first glance; however, i do feel a lot more informed and comfortable with this concept after this lecture.
In this week's seminar, we did a few exercises on Excel using the LOOKUP and VLOOKUP (Vector Lookup) functions. i learned that the LOOKUP function is used when searching one column of data and finding the answer in the corresponding row; and VLOOKUP is used when you are searching for a value in the first column of the spreadsheet. These functions could potentially assist a business in stock-take, as well as tracking employees wages.
